By Road
It is 540 miles from Calais by road and it is all autoroute (approx £35 each way) apart from the last 15 miles. In the winter, it is obligatory to carry snow chains on the higher roads. Chains can be purchased locally for around £25 and are therefore considerably cheaper than in the UK.
By Air
Verchaix is about 50 minutes by car from Geneva airport with its frequent flights by EasyJet. Web fares start at £16.99 single if you book well in advance. The airport has numerous car rental companies.
By Rail
Special Eurostar/TGV fairs are obtainable from RailEurope at the French Tourist Board (08705848848). The train goes via Paris and Annecy to Cluses (on the main route to Chamonix) although it is probably more convenient to hire a car in Annecy. Return fares for adults start at £99
